In November, a dear friend decided to plant some trees for her family, a beech tree for her son and 3 oak trees for her daughter, her mum. her neice and a rowan tree for her husband and herself.
Susan arrived one sunny autumn morning, it was warm and there were still leaves on some of the trees around us. The trees were collected from the tree nursery and along with the Treelover tree planting kit, we trundled to the planting area, a feild with a small pond, with an incline on one edge that catches the morning sun. Together we chose well spaced spots for all the saplings. I stripped the grass with the strimmer, leaving bare earth ready to dig. We planted the first tree together, digging a hole, taking out any unwanted roots so the young tree gets the best possible start to it’s new life. Susan was keen to plant the rest of the trees herself, while I hovered with the camera and we chatted, enjoying the moment. Once the last tree had been planted, the bark mulch sprinkled generously around each one, I took photos of each tree with the slate with the family message to mark the occasion. Each member of the family has a specially prepared certificate, each one a work of art.
‘Well that’s my Christmas shopping done !
Just spent a delightful morning choosing and planting trees for the family on Carolyn’s smallholding adding to the beautiful woodland of west wales and offsetting our carbon footprints at the same time . Each tree is labelled with your name and if desired an engraved plaque and then you will receive a beautiful certificate. You can plant your own tree or have it planted for you and can visit as it grows .
We were treated to a free, seasonal, holly bush as well as coffee and cake . What’s not to like !’
Thank you Susan, really looking forward to Spring, and will update you on all your family woodland.
